Live Rodents Frequently Asked Questions

We offer live rodents strictly to accommodate the specific needs of some pets and their owners who require them for their feeding practices. We understand that certain animals may only accept live prey due to instinctual hunting behaviors or dietary necessities. However, we strongly encourage feeding your pet frozen/thawed rodents whenever possible. Frozen/thawed rodents are safer for your pet, eliminating the risk of injury that can occur from live prey. They also promote more humane feeding practices and are often more convenient and cost-effective for pet owners. By choosing frozen/thawed rodents when possible, you contribute to the well-being of both your pet and the feeder animals.

What types of live rodents do you offer?

We currently offer live rats, mice, and african soft fur rats.

How should I house my live rodents before feeding?

If you need to house live rodents temporarily, keep them in a secure, well-ventilated enclosure appropriate for their size. Provide bedding material like aspen shavings or paper-based bedding. Supply fresh water and commercial rodent food if they will be housed for an extended period of time.

Can live rodents infest my home?

While unlikely if properly contained, escaped rodents can potentially establish populations in your home. It is crucial to keep them in escape-proof enclosures to prevent any chance of infestation.

How should I handle and transfer live rodents?

Handle live rodents gently and securely to prevent bites or escapes. Use gloves if necessary. To transfer them to your pet's enclosure, you can use tongs, a cup, or your hands, taking care to minimize stress to both the rodent and your pet.

Are there any allergens associated with live rodents?

Yes, some individuals may develop allergies to rodent dander, urine, or proteins. If you experience allergic symptoms like itching or respiratory issues, wear gloves and a mask when handling them.

Do you ship live rodents?
